Review: A Taste of Tuscany at Meisei Italia

Bahraincover

The history of Tuscan cuisine has ancient origins but if there’s one thing about the cuisine that transcends through time, it’s the emphasis on fresh, seasonal, and simple ingredients. We recently had the chance to embark on a culinary journey at the newly opened Meisei Italia!

Chef Fabrizio Molendi heads the kitchen at Meisei Italia – he has crafted a Tuscan-style menu that is perfect for lovers of authentic, rustic, Italian cuisine. From the moment we stepped into the space, we immediately knew that we were at somewhere special. Soon after, classy interiors, inviting ambiance, and Chef Fabrizio welcomed us.

The dinner itself was a parade of distinct flavors and beautiful, minimalist presentation. We started with a salad: the Insalata Dello Chef consisting of red and yellow tomatoes, frisee salad, endive, radicchio, pine nuts, cucumber and vinaigrette. For antipasti, we indulged in La Burrata with fresh salad, burrata cheese, tomato pachino, drizzled with olive oil. It’s refreshingly light and just the perfect starter for the evening. We had the Candele Al Ragu made with beef, candele pasta, and vegetables as our primi (first dish). The pasta was packed with incredible flavors from the meat sauce which according to Chef Fabrizio, has been cooked for over six hours.

We also savoured the Linguine Sul Mare with prawns, mussels, squid, sea bass, tomatoes, chili pepper and lime. It was extremely decadent – we loved how the seafood were perfectly cooked along with the al dente pasta.

For secondi (second dish), devoured every bite of the Cotoletta Milano, which is breaded veal cutlet complemented with cherry tomatoes, eggs, and potato.

The progression of the dinner was well-paced – dishes arrived seamlessly from dish to dish, allowing us to enjoy each one thoroughly. You can pair your Italian feast with various fine wines and wrap it up with other scrumptious dessert! During our visit, we sampled the Tiramisu and Panna Cotta which were both equally delightful.

Although simplicity is at the heart of the menu at Meisei Italia, each dish is rich in flavor, very hearty and quite filling. We loved the experience at the restaurant because it was truthful and refined, without being pretentious. It’s definitely going to be a regular spot for us!
