Bahrain has no shortage of Japanese restaurants – however, there’s no other place on the island that does it quite like Meisei.

Located at the bustling Block 338, Meisei is a contemporary house of fine cuisine. The restaurant and lounge boast a reinterpretation of Japanese, and other Asian gastronomical delights in the heart of Adliya. Last week, we had the chance to experience what makes it stand out from the rest.

Chef Michael Sang-Kyu Lee

If we’re being perfectly honest, Meisei’s ambiance itself is already enough to make us visit but let’s talk about what we went there for… the food!

In a nutshell, the restaurant’s Executive Chef, Michael Sang-Kyu Lee definitely likes to keep his menu exciting. Cooking is a deeply rooted passion that Chef Michael has developed from a very young age and this definitely exuded in the culinary journey he presented to us. We’ve sampled a few dishes from Meisei’s eclectic menu and these were our favorites.

The Raw Trio Tigers Milk Ceviche

The Raw Trio Tigers Milk Ceviche which consisted of hammour poblano, big eye tuna, jalapeño, Japanese scallop, Serrano, Mainz mote, maiz cancha, as well as a ginger, coriander, shallot and citrus marinade. It was delightful and perfectly refreshing!

Black Angus Beef Panca Chili

The next dish that really caught our attention was the Black Angus Beef Panca Chili which is pan seared beef tenderloin, crisp spring onions, panca chili anchovy puree, red lentil mash, and anchovy chili teriyaki sauce. It was incredibly delicious and was beautifully presented.

Grilled Baby Chicken

The Grilled Baby Chicken with applewood salt Peruvian mash, Thai basil puree and spicy Serrano micro cress was also a banger!

Crispy Tiger Prawn Shiso Ponzu

We thoroughly enjoyed the Crispy Tiger Prawn Shiso Ponzu with Japanese sesame leaf vinaigrette as well as the assorted maki, too!

Assorted Maki

We really loved discovering Chef Michael’s thought process during this meal. He designed a menu that pushes the culinary arts to new levels – making us realize that we don’t need to confine ourselves to specific boundaries.

Surprisingly, Meisei is quite affordable and provides exceptional value when it comes to luxury dining! It’s a place to enjoy fine cuisine any day of the week. We’re definitely going back and so should you!
