This Bahrain-based shop is reworking bandanas into cute tote bags!

In case you haven’t already noticed, 90sthetic is making a comeback! Flared jeans, cropped cardigans, scrunchies and other trends are all the rage right now. And it looks like bandanas are back on the fashion track!

Just recently, we caught up with Maia Zalameda, a Bahrain resident who is reworking bandanas into stylish tote bags in her shop, @dbandanabh.

The creation of d’bandanabh was unplanned and unexpected. Maia shares that she was just experimenting with her small sewing machine using bandanas she found from her closet, “After many trials and errors, voila… I made my first ever personal tote bag. It came out pretty good and I fell in love with the uniqueness of it. So I tried making more in different colors”.

Maia, who is a 20-year-old working student, believes that her tote bags stand out from the rest each piece is made with effort, time and love. Apart from this, her shop is the first-of-its-kind on the island. “I made d’bandanabh not just to make profit from it but mainly because I want other people to see and appreciate my work”, she commented.

Maia advises aspiring young people to never stop trying. “If you can do it, then go for it. Even if you think you’ll fail or no one will support you. You’ll always regret not trying. But make sure you know what you’re doing and you love the process. Trust me, it will take you to places.”
