As the day grows near, Bahrain Confidential celebrates the achievements of women in Bahrain and around the world by putting them on the spotlight and knowing how they #ChoosetoChallenge every day.
Today’s spotlight is on Rayan Kammoun, Director of Marketing and Communications, The Art Hotel & Resort.
What does #ChoosetoChallenge mean for you in your work life?
From challenge comes change. As a woman working in marketing, it is very important to be clear about what you want from work and what is the target you are heading for. If there is no challenge, then there is no will and there is no change.
I challenge myself every day in my work life by learning new things, adapting to the changes and hassles of daily life. Challenges should teach you to be a better you and not destroy you.
What barriers have you faced, as a woman, in becoming successful in your field? How did you overcome them?
I didn’t face major obstacles; my only concern was to be on the right track in terms of my profession. At the beginning of my journey, I wasn’t confident enough on what I really wanted, what my passion was and what my job target would be. It took me a while to be sure that marketing would be my career path.
What’s one tip that greatly impacted you and your career trajectory?
Developing your talents and skills is the key for career success.
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?
I think Kavita Ramda’s quote summarizes it all: “We need women who are so strong they can be gentle, so educated they can be humble, so fierce they can be compassionate they can be rational, and so disciplines they can be free”.
What do you enjoy doing the most when you’re off work?
My kids are still small and so once I am back from work, I try to be with them as much as I can. They demand attention and I try to spend as much quality time with them as possible. Also, I enjoy socializing, going out with friends and family.
