Machboos is a famous rice-based dish complemented by either cooked meat or chicken. Its flavour is enhanced using a few special ingredients namely Bahrat which is a unique spice blend, along with Loomi or dried lime. After cooking everything together, the rice is topped off with sprinkles of rosewater and saffron strands and served with a flavourful green sauce.

Samboosa

This is a handful and addictive appetiser deep-fried until satisfyingly crunchy. It is successfully versatile as it supports a range of fillings starting from mashed potatoes to pizza style recipes in its thin dough layer.

Mehyawa

Not exactly a food, but this sauce has won hearts of the locals and the branch of accompaniments with its unique preparatory style, aroma and rich taste. To achieve this, anchovies are fermented over a few days and later mixed with spices such as anise, coriander, and cumin. This sauce can commonly be found at bakery shops where the dishes are drizzled with this treat.

Luqaimat

Quench your sugar cravings with this sweet and crunchy dumpling that will leave you wanting for more! Easy to prepare, this dessert is made with a mixture of flour, yeast, cardamom, sugar and saffron. Generally served with date sauce as garnish, various new fusions can also be witnessed with nutella and pistachio fillings.

Mawash

Similar to Machboos, mawash is also a rice-based meal cooked to perfection with shrimps and caramelised onions. Other ingredients include black peas, lentils and mung beans which can easily fill you up.
