I am currently the Chief of Surgical Service lines, Radiology, Pathology, Gynecology, and Dental, and Chief of Surgery in American Mission Hospital which I joined in 1993 as a surgeon; I have grown with the organization, while managing the physician also maintain one of the heaviest surgical loads. My brief achievements in the organization have been:

  • At the helm of growth in 1990’s and have facilitated the increased the capacity of physicians from 8 to around 50 that we employ. It has the heaviest outpatient attendance of the private organizations in Bahrain, dealing with about 500 out patients a day and is a 40 bedded hospital.
  • I started the endoscopy services in the hospital with gastrocopy and colonoscopy in the earlier phases of my carrier. I do most of the scopies for the surgical patients.
  • I initiated and started the Breast clinic in the hospital and streamlined the services for examination, imaging, fine needle aspirations and subsequent surgeries (including radical surgeries)
  • I launched the Laparoscopic surgery in the hospital and am constantly improving the quality of care.
  • I started the Laser services by introduction of a Carbon dioxide laser in the hospital.
  • Took a leading role in acquiring the Australian Accreditation (ACHSI), it took 2 years of preparation but was the first hospital in the kingdom to be certified.
  • I have had consistently had the maximum surgical and outpatient practice in the hospital, seeing about 35 patients in a typical 8 hour outpatient clinic and run a fully booked elective surgery list 2 days in a week.
  • I am the chairperson in development of the clinical pathways in our hospital and have been credited with having marked improvement in the delivery of services in the inpatient and short stay care.
  • I head the surgical mortality and morbidity meeting in our hospital, supervising analysis and corrective measures in prevention.
  • I chaired the Operating Room committee overlooking a vital functioning of the hospital; this function I have delegated now to the head of anesthetist.
  • I get called on and off on ad hoc committees for the medical commission investigating medico-legal cases as an expert.
  • My managerial functions in the hospital are of typical Chief of staff including appraisals, evaluation, planning, budgeting, capital equipment, fund raising and publicity, dealing with patient complaints.
