BMW Middle East has partnered with Batelco to bring eSIM technology to its latest models available in Bahrain. The partnership was announced at a press conference held at Euro Motors, the BMW dealership in Bahrain. Batelco is perhaps the first operator in Bahrain and the GCC, and one of nine worldwide to enable eSIM technology in BMW vehicles.
The eSIM technology enables users to connect to the internet using their vehicles as another interconnected device, similar to using a smartwatch or a tablet. With the eSIM embedded in the vehicle, users can make calls and access the internet at all times, even if they leave their mobile devices at home. The eSIM is linked directly to the BMW ID of the customer and can be used in any enabled vehicle across the world.
Batelco’s connectivity offers high bandwidth and low latency, providing improved call quality and the ability to activate hotspots for passenger devices in the vehicle. Aseel Mattar, General Manager, Consumer at Batelco, said, “We are delighted to partner with BMW and provide customers with the best experience of connectivity and performance. This is another big step toward connected vehicles and will help pave the way for future innovative technology such as IoT and seamless communication between the driver and the vehicle.”
David McGoldrick, General Manager at Euro Motors, expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying, “We are always eager to provide the very best of technology that BMW has to offer, and with our collaboration with Batelco, we will be able to provide our valued customers in Bahrain with the best connectivity experience.”
Batelco postpaid customers who own, rent, or have access to an enabled BMW vehicle can easily activate and onboard using the MyBMW app and following the step-by-step instructions. The partnership between BMW and Batelco is expected to enhance the in-car experience, providing seamless connectivity and improving the overall driving experience for BMW customers in Bahrain.
