Bahrain has just launched a new public transportation service – and this one is all about embracing the island’s maritime roots. Meet the Water Taxi (or Sea Taxi, as some may call it): a refreshing, exciting new way to get around, whether you’re visiting for a day or looking to enjoy a laid-back voyage on the water. Designed for both commuters and explorers, this service offers a whole new perspective on Bahrain’s waterfront landmarks – all without touching a land route.
The Sea Taxi project, launched on 25th April, is the brainchild of Masar Group, a company specialising in marine logistics and tourist transportation. It’s the Kingdom’s first mass maritime transport system, aiming to give both locals and visitors a new way to travel – one that connects Bahrain’s most vibrant seafaring hubs while giving a firm nod to the island’s rich nautical heritage.
The Sea Taxi departs from Bahrain Bay and offers several strategically placed stops around the island. Each journey promises not just transportation, but an experience. The vessel itself can accommodate up to 28 passengers.
With air-conditioning on board, panoramic views of the waterfront, and a VIP seating option for those who prefer a little more exclusivity, it’s designed for maximum comfort – perfect for escaping the intense summer heat while still enjoying the outdoors.
East Coast Corniche: Expect sweeping views of open waters and the endless horizon. It’s a peaceful stretch where you might catch planes taking off or landing at Bahrain International Airport, adding a bit of aviation spotting to your journey. The Busaiteen waterfront (Al Sayh) also offers a plethora of food trucks by the water, a must-see for the adventurous foodie in you.
Saada Harbour: A bustling water tourism hub, Saada Harbour offers fantastic views of the striking King Hamad Causeway. It’s an ideal stop if you’re interested in watching Bahrain’s marine life or simply taking in the scenic waterfront vibes. It’s also your gateway to Muharraq, Bahrain’s historical corner where time stands still and traditional houses, alleys, and culture take centre stage.
The Avenues Bahrain: Shopping, dining, and strolling along a vibrant promenade – this stop puts you right at the doorstep of one of Bahrain’s premier retail and leisure destinations. Perfect for a quick stopover or an afternoon adventure.
Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay: Whether you’re treating yourself to a staycation, a spa day, or a fine dining experience, the Four Seasons is an easy hop-off point. You don’t need to be staying there to enjoy its many attractions, from world-class restaurants to relaxing lounges.
Bahrain Harbour: Step into Bahrain Harbour and discover beautifully designed landscapes, stunning architecture (including the iconic Bahrain Financial Harbour towers), a collection of restaurants and cafés, and plenty of picturesque spots for your social feeds.
Water Garden City: Sun, sand, and a lively atmosphere await at this vibrant beach and waterfront destination. Water Garden City is known for its water sports, lively barbecues, fire dances, and music events – a party spot for both day and night.
Getting around by water is surprisingly affordable. Whether you want a quick trip to one stop or an all-day pass to explore every corner, here’s what it’ll cost:

Beyond offering a picturesque way to explore Bahrain, the Sea Taxi is a vital public transportation. It provides an alternative to land routes, connecting key waterfronts with ease. More importantly, it offers a slice of that authentic island life – there’s something timeless about travelling by boat, feeling the breeze of the open water, and seeing a city unfold from its maritime roots.
Whether you’re a visitor ticking off the top spots or a local looking for a new way to experience the island, the Sea Taxi is a good and effortless way to get around. Hop on for a short ride, or make a day of it by exploring every stop – either way, it’s a journey worth taking.
