Traffic Update: Plan Your Commute in Bahrain During the Arab League Summit

With Bahrain hosting the 33rd Arab League Summit this Thursday, the General Directorate of Traffic and Ministry of Interior have announced temporary road closures and diversions in Bahrain during the morning and evening hours of 15 and 16 May.

Here are the timings for traffic regulations on the two days:

Wednesday, 15 May
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Thursday, 16 May
9:00 am – 11:00 am
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Affected roads include: starting at Bahrain International Airport, the route includes Khalifa Al Kabeer Highway, passing through Al-Ghous Street, Sheikh Isa bin Salman Bridge, along King Faisal Highway, Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway, into the Seef District.

Traffic will then head south on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway towards Zallaq and the Sakhir Palace roundabout. To ensure uninterrupted traffic flow, several alternative routes have been announced for commuters.

If you’re travelling from the Southern or Northern Governorates, use Jabar Al-Sabah Street, Sheikh Salman Highway, and Sheikh Isa Bin Salman Highway.

From the Capital Governorate, you can access the Al Fateh Highway, Government Avenue, and the inner roads of the Governorate.

In Muharraq, alternatives include Khalifa bin Salman Bridge, Dry Dock Highway, Arad Highway, Rayya Highway, Sheikh Salman Highway, and Sheikh Hamad Bridge which is also accessible to residents of Busaiteen and surrounding areas.

Samaheej, Qalali, Al-Dair, Arad, and Al-Hidd residents can access Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Bridge.

The GDT has called on commuters to limit non-essential travel and stay updated during the two days. Traffic Police will be available on the road to aid vehicular movements and emergencies in case of road closures.
