The Sandwich Guide: 10 Spots To Check Out in Bahrain

Bahraincover

Few foods are as universally relied upon as the sandwich. It works for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between. It travels well, eats easily, and when done right, needs nothing else on the plate. The format is simple, bread and filling, but the range is enormous.

A great sandwich comes down to balance: the right bread, quality ingredients, and enough restraint to let the flavours come through. In Bahrain, the sandwich scene stretches well beyond the usual lunch counter. Across the island, you’ll find everything from Italian subs and Lebanese wraps to wagyu pastrami on pretzel rolls, with kitchens that take their bread as seriously as their fillings. Some of these spots are dedicated sandwich operations.

Others are full-service restaurants where the sandwich menu rivals the mains. Whether you’re after a quick bite on the go or something worth sitting down for, this guide covers the places doing it well.

The Sandwich Guide: 10 Top Spots in Bahrain

Baker & Spice

Local, organic, and freshly made. The bread here is low-fermented, hand-shaped, and baked daily with organic flour, coming out crusty on the outside and soft within. Vegan options are available, including the Avocado and Beans Sourdough sandwich.

Café Lilou

Regularly voted among Bahrain’s best restaurants, Cafe Lilou serves indulgent twists on classic sandwiches, paired with hand-cut fries. Expect generous portions and flavours that lean towards the decadent side.

CUT by Wolfgang Puck

Known primarily for its steaks, CUT’s sandwich menu is a smaller affair but worth seeking out. Executive Chef Brian Becher’s kitchen turns out a Philadelphia-style cheesesteak with caramelised onions on a hoagie roll, a wagyu beef pastrami on a pretzel roll with Swiss cheese and coleslaw, USDA prime beef sliders on brioche, and a blackened fish taco with smoked chilli and labneh. A limited selection, but everything on it earns its place.

Joe & The Juice

Joe’s sandwiches are built on fibre-rich wholemeal bread, toasted panini-style and wrapped in recycled paper for easy one-handed eating. The bread is made specifically for the brand, and each sandwich follows a simple formula: bread, greens, spread, meat, and dressing. The Phat Joe and Spicy Joe’s Club are reliable picks.

Mana Café

A fully plant-based eatery offering vegan sandwiches alongside its wider cafe menu. A solid option if you’re after something lighter or entirely meat-free.

Ritz Gourmet Lounge

Sandwiches here are served for light lunches and dinners from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The menu includes the Le Club Ritz Gourmet, Le Boeuf Steak and Cheese, Black Forest Chicken Avocado, and the Classic Cheesy Hamburger.

Salumeria Papà

From the team behind Osteria Papà, Salumeria is a delivery-only concept serving gourmet Italian sandwiches and coffee from 12:00 pm to 12:00 am. If you’ve eaten at the original, this is a natural next step.

Sammonah Sandwich

A neighbourhood spot packed with flavour. The menu runs from Lemon Tikka and Brisket to Chicken Mushroom, Sausage, and Crunchy Chicken Sliders. Nothing complicated, just good sandwiches done right.

Sandwicherie by Ô Liban

Authentic Lebanese sandwiches with crispy bread and generous fillings. Think juicy kabab wraps and warm, golden flatbreads stuffed with bold, well-seasoned ingredients.

The Orangery Tearoom & Patisserie

Several sandwiches to choose from here, each made in-house. Highlights include the Focaccia Milanese with breaded chicken, parmesan, and sriracha ranch; a steak sandwich with marinated tenderloin on brioche; and The Orangery Smash Burger with cheddar, dill cocktail sauce, and gherkin.
