Marking 20 years of its efforts to spread awareness about breast cancer, Think Pink: Bahrain Breast Cancer Society is hosting an Anniversary Gala on 25th October. This black-tie evening hosted at The Gulf Hotel and Convention Centre will see corporate and individual support for the organisation’s mission.

The gala is the culmination of Think Pink’s month-long efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month which includes the Race To A Million Challenge and driving awareness through Think Pink’s breast self-examination app – iCheck.

“These initiatives reflect Think Pink Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing breast cancer care within the Kingdom; empowering patients and fostering community support through various educational and clinical programmes,” says Dr. Julie Sprackel, Founder, Think Pink Bahrain.

Here’s how you can support Think Pink Bahrain’s initiative:

You can do your bit to support Think Pink Bahrain’s ongoing cause for Breast Cancer Awareness by purchasing a ticket or table for the gala event.

Tables are allocated per 10 people – with each ticket costing BHD 40. Individual tickets can be bought by contacting 39076717. For full tables of 10 people, drop a message to Think Pink Bahrain on Instagram to get the pack of tickets.

BHD 15 from each ticket sold to the public is directed to the Charity. In return, guests at the gala can enjoy a three-course-seated meal and entertainment.

One table enables the purchase of a customised lymphatic bandage.

One table supports five sessions of counselling.

Two tables support genetic testing funds that are critical in supporting patients.

The impact on Bahrain and the region

Over the last few years, Think Pink Bahrain has supported the cause of breast cancer awareness in several ways. In July 2018, the society raised BHD 60,000 towards creating the most current, relevant, and evidence-based National Breast Cancer Guidelines in the region, endorsed by the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) and the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA).

In 2017, the society raised BHD 499,900 to support the installation of an MRI machine at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). Since 2019, the organization has raised BHD 71,006 to create Decision Aids to empower patients in making informed treatment choices. These aids are available in Arabic and English on the mission’s website.

The society has also helped sponsor MSc nurses specializing in breast cancer at SMC, Bahrain Defence Defence Force Hospital, and King Hamad University Hospital. Along with this, 12 physiotherapists were supported with the Klose International Lymphedema certification and the production of customized lymphedema bandages.

Since August 2016, Think Pink Bahrain has been supporting research through RCSI Bahrain on genetic predisposition to breast cancer among Bahraini women and AI applications in MRI analysis. The findings in this research were published in high-impact journals, influencing local healthcare practices.

The organisation raised BHD 150,000 between 2004 and 2007 for the Bahrain Cancer Society’s National Mammography Drive.
