Confused about what to wear? Bahrain’s top stylist Aysha Mattar shares the five staples every wardrobe must have, to create outfits that you can dress up or down!
The White Shirt
There’s something about a white button-down shirt that exudes ease and elegance. When you find one that fits just right, it’ll be like a constant home run and I guarantee you it’ll be the most used item in your wardrobe on your outfit rut days.
The Black Blazer
A black blazer, just like a great white shirt, is timeless. It is the go-to color I like to start my clients off with if they do not own one yet. There are no limits to how a black blazer can be styled; you can pair it with a skirt, shorts, jeans, a dress, even your sweats as seen here on Pernille Teisbaek. It’s a piece that immediately elevates your look making you look and feel very well put together. Investing in the perfect black blazer for your body type means it will automatically become your go-to item for layering for many years to come.
Your Go-To Denim
This pair by Agolde is currently my favourite. They tick a few boxes for me in terms of comfort and silhouette. They are also currently the only pair that fit me thanks to covid calories. There’s something about denim, especially in the lighter washes, that just never go out of style and with the nostalgic 90’s vibe it definitely is an added bonus. Finding a pair that fits your body type and height is key to keeping it relevant to you and your personal style.
The Black Leather Jacket
My new motto in life is fill the gaps in your wardrobe with pieces that you will constantly reach for time and time again. Going for neutrals are usually what creates that continuity and timelessness with certain pieces. It took me a very long time to find the perfect black leather jacket of my dreams and it was well worth the wait. Starting out with a black one is the easiest option because of what’s readily available in the market. Investing in one that’s great quality is the second.
A Classic White Tee
The love I have for the classic white t-shirt also stems from the ease of dressing this piece up or down. It is also one of the most versatile items of clothing because each person can make it their own by just the way they accessorize and/or layer. It is a literal fashion white canvas for every woman to play around with. I buy a white tee just about every year and I have them in every length and neckline imaginable.
