The 9th BNP Paribas Bahrain Jazz Fest wrapped up on Thursday, 5 December, and what a day it was. The Royal Golf Club’s driving range was transformed into an all-day celebration of music that brought together international stars, regional talent, and Bahrain’s own jazz scene. UNESCO-recognised and seriously family-friendly, this open-air festival delivered everything from jazz fusion and Latin rhythms to homegrown Bahraini brilliance.
The lineup was packed with world-class acts that had the crowd absolutely mesmerised.
Grammy Award-winning guitar legend Frank Gambale headlined with his All Stars, bringing his pioneering sweep-picking technique to life in an electrifying fusion set. If you know anything about contemporary jazz guitar, you know this man is a master. The energy was through the roof.
Cuban jazz star Ana Carla Maza brought Havana to Bahrain with her unique blend of Latin rhythms, jazz, and classical influences. A cellist, singer, and composer rolled into one, she delivered a performance that was equal parts fire and elegance.
Italian scat jazz maestro Gege Telesforo proved why he’s considered a true ambassador of the art form. His vocal improvisation mixed swing, funk, and jazz with a soulful groove that got everyone moving.
Rising European jazz star and pianist Manon Mullener made her mark with a performance that beautifully wove together lyrical European jazz with Afro-Cuban and Latin elements. Her 5tet was absolutely on point.
This high-energy funk-jazz-Latin fusion band from Cyprus brought infectious grooves, tight brass sections, and percussion that kept the festival buzzing with life.
True to its mission of bridging cultures, the festival gave Bahrain’s jazz scene the spotlight it deserves.
Bahraini jazz guitarist and composer Abdulla Haji showcased his Rouh Collective’s distinctive sound, blending Arabian melodies and Gulf elements with jazz in a way that’s both rooted in tradition and refreshingly creative.
These pioneers of Bahrain’s hip-hop and jazz scene brought a contemporary edge to the lineup, mixing genres in ways that felt fresh and exciting.
This Bahrain-based vocal group lifted spirits with powerful harmonies and arrangements spanning gospel, soul, and jazz. Pure community vibes.
Student jazz bands from the British School of Bahrain, American School of Bahrain, and St Christopher’s School also performed, proving that Bahrain’s jazz future is in good hands.
Beyond the music, there were food trucks, a beer garden, an artisans market, and dedicated play areas for kids. It was the kind of day where you could settle in with good food, great music, and make it a proper family outing.
The 9th BNP Paribas Bahrain Jazz Festival, organised by Clockwork and presented by BNP Paribas, once again proved why it’s the Middle East’s premier jazz event. By bringing international giants together with the best of Bahrain’s talent, it’s become something really special.
