Sumosan Bahrain is giving its diners a way to bring the restaurant’s iconic dishes straight to their own table. The contemporary Japanese restaurant at Marassi Al Bahrain has just launched Sumosan at Home, offering the same menu, prepared in the same kitchen to the same standards, available exclusively for pick-up. No separate takeaway menu, no simplified versions: just Sumosan’s signature dishes, ready to collect and enjoy at home.
There’s no separate takeaway menu, no simplified version of the dishes. Sumosan at Home is built around the same quality and standards as the restaurant, with the intention of bringing the flavours you’d expect at the restaurant to your home.
The kitchen takes a contemporary approach: modern technique applied to quality ingredients, with Japanese culinary tradition as the foundation. It’s a style of cooking that rewards attention: clean flavours, careful seasoning, nothing included without a reason. That rigour doesn’t disappear when the food leaves the restaurant.
Here’s how it works: Call the restaurant to place your order, then collect it yourself or send someone on your behalf. Pick-up is available from the restaurant or from the Address Beach Resort’s valet entrance.
The menu covers considerable ground. For those who prefer something familiar, the 24-hour miso-marinated black cod is the kind of dish that earns its reputation: slow-developed flavour, precise preparation, and a texture that holds up well. The Tuna and Truffle Roll takes a classic format somewhere more indulgent, pairing clean fish with earthier depth.
For something more unexpected, the salmon furikake crispy sushi rice pizza is one of those dishes that remains memorable. It sits in the space between Japanese technique and modern invention without losing coherence. The wagyu fillet Sando on Japanese home-baked milk bread is comfort food through and through, and one of the more satisfying things on the menu.
Wasabi prawns with golden mango and passion fruit salsa round things out on the lighter end: bright, sharp, and balanced in a way that makes them easy to build a meal around.
Japanese cuisine has found a genuinely enthusiastic palate in Bahrain. The island’s appetite for Japanese food — from neighbourhood sushi counters to fine dining — has grown steadily over the past decade. What draws people to it tends to be consistent: the clean flavours, the craft in the preparation, and a cuisine that works across moods and occasions.
Sumosan fits naturally into that landscape. The brand has been refining its take on contemporary Japanese dining for over two decades, across locations in London, Dubai, Riyadh, Doha, Berlin, and Courchevel. Bahrain joined that list in October 2024.
The food here doesn’t try to reinvent Japanese cuisine so much as redefine the art by applying modern techniques and letting the ingredients do most of the talking. The focus is on shared moments, creating a sense of togetherness around good food, making Sumosan at Home a must-have at your next home gathering.
