We recently discovered SO/ Uptown Dubai, and it exceeded all our expectations. Tucked away adjacent to the JLT area near Media City and the Palm, this five-star urban resort strikes a perfect balance between luxury and playfulness, reminding us of boutique properties we’ve loved elsewhere.
After winding up several levels to reach the lobby, we were greeted by a warm and helpful staff who handled everything with efficiency. The initial booking was for just two nights, but with extended work in Dubai, we ended up lengthening our stay by another two days.
Our suite on the 41st floor was wonderfully spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing panoramic views across Dubai. The interiors were immaculately designed, with premium finishes throughout and a bathroom that felt like a sanctuary. Everything was kept pristine during our stay.
What really impressed us was how the hotel catered to individual lifestyles. The breakfast service was fantastic, accommodating strict dietary requirements without fuss. The gym, perched high in the building, became a favourite morning ritual. Training at sunrise with Dubai stretching out below us was an incredible way to start each day.
The location proved ideal for both business and leisure. We were in Dubai primarily for work, but also managed to fit in wakeboarding nearby, which speaks to the area’s versatility. It’s strategically positioned at what they call Dubai’s Southern Gate, with access to the city’s key destinations whilst maintaining a slightly more relaxed atmosphere than the busier central districts.
We also dined at the Uptown Brasserie one afternoon and had an exceptional steak that we highly recommend. The Atrium area, where you’ll find various dining options, including the casual Uptown Social, adds to the hotel’s appeal.
Dubai can feel overwhelming with its endless hotel choices, but SO/ Uptown Dubai genuinely works for both business travellers and holidaymakers. It’s rare to find a property that serves both audiences so well. The fact that we willingly paid to extend our stay says everything about the quality of the experience.
