From Sushi Rolling to Skyline Views: The Ruka Experience

Bahraincover

There is something undeniably appealing about the 24th floor of the Ramee Grand Hotel & Spa. While Bahrain’s dining scene is always changing, Ruka has managed to stay a top choice for Japanese fine dining in the heart of Seef. We recently visited to find out what makes this long-standing spot shine, and we can now confirm that the views aren’t its only highlights.

Elevated Vibes and Panoramic Views

As you enter Ruka, you quickly sense an energy shift. The ambience is refined and stylish without being overly formal or pretentious. It makes a strong upscale impression with its sleek decor and soft lighting, but the real standout is the floor-to-ceiling windows. Being on the 24th floor, Ruka offers a sweeping view of Manama that is hard to beat, especially as the city lights come to life in the evening. This place is perfect for a sophisticated date night or a high-level business lunch.

The design is elegant and thoughtful, striking a balance between modern simplicity and a warm, inviting feel. It feels exclusive, yet the atmosphere remains friendly and lively. You aren’t just going there for a meal; you’re going for the experience of being above it all while enjoying one of the most stylish spots in the Kingdom.

A Masterclass in Freshness

Of course, a stunning view only goes so far if the food isn’t up to par. Luckily, the kitchen at Ruka is led by talented chefs who know how to work with delicate ingredients. We began with the sushi and sashimi platters, and the freshness was clear from the first bite. The rolls had a rich, buttery texture that comes from prioritising quality.

The highlight of the evening was the salmon rolls. We found ourselves reaching for seconds (and maybe thirds). What made these rolls special wasn’t just the quality of the fish, but the balance of flavours. The rice was well seasoned, not too sweet or vinegary, and each piece held together nicely, allowing us to enjoy the textures without everything falling apart. It’s clear that the chefs here aren’t just putting together food; they are creating it with a level of skill that respects traditional Japanese techniques while keeping it exciting for local tastes.

Bahrain’s Growing Love for all Things Japanese

It’s no secret that the Kingdom has developed a strong appreciation for Japanese cuisine and culture in recent years. Whether chatting with locals or the expat community, everyone loves the clean, bold flavours of the East. This is evident in the many Japanese restaurants that have recently opened across the island. From casual ramen shops to upscale teppanyaki, the competition is intense.

Despite the rise of new places, Ruka continues to stand out. Its central location in Seef makes it very accessible, but the sense of community really distinguishes it. Ruka doesn’t just serve food; it invites you into its culture. Their special events, like Wine Tasting and Sushi Rolling classes, have become popular with residents who want to engage more than just sitting down for a meal. These events turn a typical dinner out into a hands-on experience, making the restaurant feel more like a social gathering spot than just another dining venue.

The Verdict

Ruka feels both well-established and refreshing at the same time. In a market where new often overshadows consistent, this restaurant shows that quality and atmosphere are timeless. With its buttery sashimi, irresistible salmon rolls, and stunning 24th-floor skyline, it remains a must-visit for anyone looking to savour the best of Japanese flavours in Bahrain. If you haven’t been in a while, it’s definitely time to return to the 24th floor.
