No, a rapid test is not the new PCR test

In a press conference held today, the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (Covid-19) monitoring committee head Lt Col Dr Manaf Al Qahtani said that rapid tests are not a replacement for PCR tests.

The rapid examination does not dispense with the PCR examination in the event that the result is positive. If the rapid test result is negative, then there is no need to report it.

For those wishing to conduct a self-examination; here’s a list of pharmacies you can buy a rapid test kit from.

The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test remains the approved diagnostic tool used in Bahrain.
