February at the Movies: Your Guide to Bahrain’s Big Screen

Bahraincover

February’s lineup of movies is stronger than usual, with everything from horror franchises to heist thrillers filling screens across the island. Whether you’re looking for a midday matinee or to fill up your weekend plans, Bahrain’s cinemas have enough variety this month to keep you coming back.

Movies To Watch This February

Romance and Adventure

Valentine’s Day falls midway through the month, and if you’re looking for something lighter than your typical rom-com, Solo Mio (5 February) might be the answer. Kevin James stars as a groom stranded in Rome after a wedding disaster, turning his ruined honeymoon into an unexpected adventure. With Alyson Hannigan in the cast, it promises warmth and laughs without the saccharine sweetness. It’s the kind of film that reminds you that sometimes the best stories come from plans gone wrong.

For those who prefer their romance with a darker edge, O Romeo (13 February) takes you to post-independence Mumbai, where the underworld rises amidst a changing city. Starring Nana Patekar, Shahid Kapoor, and Tripti Dimri, this Hindi-language crime drama explores the criminal landscape of a bygone era, weaving through the streets and shadows of India’s bustling metropolis.

Family-Friendly Adventures

Parents looking for half-term entertainment will appreciate Curly Burly (5 February), an animated tale about a troll who sneaks up to the surface world and embarks on an adventure beyond anything he could dream of. It’s charming, simple, and perfect for younger viewers who need a break from screens at home.

Thrills and Chills

Horror fans have been waiting for this one. Scream 7 arrives on 26 February, bringing back Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, who must protect her daughter (Isabel May) from a new Ghostface killer. Courteney Cox returns, too, and the film promises to honour the franchise’s legacy while pushing it forward. This is the kind of film that deserves the full cinema experience with proper surround sound and a crowd that knows when to scream.

Sci-Fi and Survival

The Astronaut (5 February) stars Kate Mara and Laurence Fishburne in a tense thriller about an astronaut who crash-lands back to Earth, only to be placed in quarantine as disturbing events suggest something extraterrestrial followed her home. It’s psychological horror meets sci-fi, perfect for those who like their scares with a side of existential dread.

For something more visceral, Worldbreaker (also 5 February) sees Luke Evans and Milla Jovovich in a story about a father who hides his daughter on an island to keep her safe while training her for the battles ahead. Meanwhile, Killer Whale promises underwater revenge with Virginia Gardner leading the cast in what looks like a creature feature with teeth.

The Month’s Must-See

Crime 101 (11 February) is February’s standout. Adapted from Don Winslow’s acclaimed novella and directed by Bart Layton (American Animals), this Los Angeles-set crime thriller features Chris Hemsworth as an elusive jewel thief, Halle Berry as a disillusioned insurance broker, and Mark Ruffalo as the detective closing in. With Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, and Corey Hawkins rounding out the cast, it’s the kind of ensemble that elevates genre filmmaking. As the heist approaches, the line between hunter and hunted blurs, and all three characters face life-defining choices with no turning back.

Bahrain’s Cinema Scene

Bahrain has quietly built a solid cinema culture over the years, and you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to where to watch. Whether you want premium seating, IMAX, or just somewhere close to home, the island has you covered.

Cineco Bahrain has been around since 1968 and operates five locations across Juffair, Seef, Al Hamra, Wadi Al Sail, and Al Liwan. It’s a reliable choice with a wide range of screenings and the kind of consistency you appreciate when you just want a straightforward cinema experience.

VOX Bahrain at City Centre Bahrain in Seef and The Avenues in Manama offers premium experiences, including THEATRE, GOLD, and MAX screens with Dolby Atmos. It was the first in the Middle East to bring IMAX with Laser and Sapphire technology, and also offers 4DX for immersive, multi-sensory viewing. MAX screens feature spacious seats with extra legroom, armrests, side tables, and top-tier surround sound.

Cinépolis Bahrain has two locations at Atrium Mall in Saar and Amwaj Islands, offering modern screens and a growing selection of films.

EPIX at Dana Mall in Sanabis has 10 screens and over 1,100 seats, ranging from intimate setups to multi-level balcony seating.

Mukta Cinema Bahrain at Juffair Mall is the only Indian cinema chain operating internationally, founded by Indian filmmaker Subhash Ghai. It focuses on quality multiplex experiences at affordable prices and typically shows a strong selection of Bollywood releases alongside mainstream fare.

Most now showing listings are available on each cinema’s website or app, so check there for showtimes and bookings. February’s looking good for movie lovers.
