We’re nearing the end of Mental Health Awareness Month, but let’s keep the conversation going.
While mental health deserves more than just a month of awareness, this feels like a fitting moment to share a little extra with you, dear readers. Recently, we sat down with Vincent Cubitt, a South African life coach with years of experience helping clients here in Bahrain find their path to a more mindful, connected, and fulfilling life.
If you’re exploring personal growth, embracing mindfulness, showing up to therapy, or trying new ways to manage stress, consider this a gentle nudge: Bahrain offers plenty of resources to support your journey.
Let’s be real; steering yourself towards a healthier mindset isn’t always easy. With so much digital noise and conflicting advice out there, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
A self-taught transformational guide with nearly 30 years of experience, Vincent has spent decades helping people break free from chronic patterns of addiction, emotional distress, and even physical illness.
His journey began in his own childhood, where early encounters with addiction gave him an understanding of destructive behaviour patterns and how they take root in family structures and relationships.

His personal search for clarity led him to uncover what he calls a natural system, a kind of internal compass, that’s always steering us towards a healthier, more empowered, and joyful life. Over the years, he’s devoted himself to understanding how these patterns form, how they affect our relationships, and how we can shift them to live with greater purpose and connection.
He calls this method the CHOICEpoint Process.
Having worked with families across the Middle East, supporting their children and loved ones through addiction, mental health challenges, and emotional disorders, Vincent is now keen to share his approach with anyone ready to shift from struggle to clarity.
The CHOICEpoint Process empowers people to navigate the mental and emotional turmoil that often plays out in our relationships, whether with a partner, family member, or even within ourselves. It helps us recognise destructive patterns and make conscious decisions to break free from them. The process also gives us the tools to take control of our health and lifestyle, so we can feel more connected, healthier, and more joyful.
We’re guided by our five senses, so it’s natural to look outward for what we need or to scan for potential dangers. This external focus is a survival mechanism. While most of us are no longer in real survival mode, we still seek validation, attention, money, and status from the outside world to feel safe, loved, and important.
Of course, these external things can make us feel good for a moment, but they can never truly satisfy our deepest needs. When we start looking inward, we realise what we truly crave is a connection—to our true nature, and ultimately, to the Creator. Once we experience that connection, nothing external can compare. This need is ‘built’ into us.
Every moment of struggle creates a CHOICEpoint, a single point of influence, where we can either react in the same way, repeating old cycles, or pause and consciously choose to respond differently. This choice lets us dissolve patterns that don’t serve us and create new ones that align with love, health, abundance, and purpose.
We naturally have the ability to heal ourselves and unlock the unlimited potential to create the lives we want for ourselves and our families. I use the analogy of the eternal tree, where our soul is the tree, and our mind and body are like a single leaf on that tree, to remind us of a deeper purpose in our lives.
Most destructive patterns form early in life and are based on fear and disconnection, the belief that we are not loved, not safe, not seen, or not enough. These beliefs show up in our personalities, causing street on our relationships, especially with those we love. Over time, they can even manifest as physical illnesses. Unless we consciously choose to change these patterns, they persist.
The first step is always to develop an awareness of your patterns and build the discipline to pull yourself out of the emotional stories your mind creates when you’re triggered. Fortunately, these skills are simple to develop, but, they can be challenging because they often force us out of our comfort zones. CHOICEpoint offers mentoring programmes and guidance to help you through the process.
