Bahrain traded its signature crimson for a bold papaya blaze on Sunday as the McLaren Formula One racing team, owned by Mumtalakat, roared to yet another Constructors’ Championship triumph!

In a stunning display of global sporting prowess, McLaren has done it again. The team, owned by Mumtalakat Holding Company, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, claimed the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship for the second year running, securing their tenth overall title in the team’s illustrious history.

On Sunday, Bahrain International Circuit’s Race Control Centre or the iconic pagoda, reflected Team Bahrain in papaya colours.

The championship-clinching moment arrived at the Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay, where Lando Norris crossed the line in third place, whilst teammate Oscar Piastri followed closely in fourth. These crucial points pushed McLaren’s season tally to a commanding 650 points, wrapping up the title with six races still remaining on the calendar.

This achievement equals the record for the fastest championship win in Formula 1 history, a testament to the team’s complete dominance throughout the season.

McLaren’s Winning Season

The numbers tell an extraordinary story. Across 18 races, McLaren notched up 12 victories, an impressive seven one-two finishes, and a remarkable 28 podium appearances. This isn’t just about speed on track, it’s about technical brilliance and organisational excellence firing on all cylinders, symbolising how Bahrain’s strategic vision has restored McLaren to its former glory.

The journey to this moment began back in 2017 when Bahrain acquired McLaren during a particularly challenging period for the legendary team, reports Bahrain News Agency. Facing both financial constraints and performance struggles, McLaren was on the throes of a complete transformation.

Bahrain’s long-term strategy delivered exactly that, pouring substantial resources into technology and development, whilst expanding research capabilities both at the team’s historic Woking headquarters in the United Kingdom and establishing new facilities in Bahrain itself.

With CEO Zak Brown at the helm and Andreas Stella leading the team, McLaren took on reigning champions Red Bull, overthrowing the latter from the Constructors’ Title in 2024. This year, McLaren vies for both Championships, having claimed one of them.

The sporting and commercial identity has been rebuilt from the ground up, with the MCL39 car showcasing breakthrough innovations in hybrid systems, aerodynamics, and advanced simulation technology. These developments have enabled Piastri and Norris to battle for wins across five continents with remarkable consistency.

But McLaren’s impact extends far beyond the racetrack. The team has become a genuine source of inspiration throughout the Kingdom, running training programmes and forging partnerships with universities focused on motorsport technology. This initiative highlights Bahrain’s expanding influence in global sports investment and its commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent in this highly specialised field.

Driver Duo

The 2025 season has been absolutely exciting. Piastri claimed seven victories, including triumphs in China, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Norris wasn’t far behind, securing five wins of his own in Australia, Monaco, Austria, Britain, and Hungary. The team’s multiple double victories throughout the season confirmed their dominance long before the constructor’s title was mathematically secured in Singapore.

With six races still to go, attention now turns to the Drivers’ Championship, where the battle remains intriguingly poised. Piastri currently leads the standings with 336 points, holding a 22-point advantage over his teammate Norris. Fans around the world are eagerly anticipating the final rounds as both drivers continue to showcase the technical prowess and mental fortitude that have defined McLaren’s season.

This championship victory solidifies 2025 as a landmark year in McLaren’s storied history, demonstrating what can be achieved when vision, investment, and talent combine under Mumtalakat’s ownership. The papaya pride burns bright, and Bahrain celebrates alongside McLaren faithful everywhere.
