Bahrain Confidential interviews Christopher Geraghty, General Manager of the Royal Golf Club
Tell us something personal – how would you describe yourself in one word?
I’m usually very direct. I like to ensure everything I do stems from purpose and that I utilize every minute of the day to be productive and achieve something. If something takes one hour to complete, I like to get it completed in that hour and move on.
If you can change one thing about hospitality in general, what would it be?
I wouldn’t change a thing. I believe we are extremely lucky to work in such an exciting and dynamic industry. An industry where we have to think on our feet, problem-solve on the go and anticipate the needs of our guests. That, for me, is the exciting part; being able to put ourselves in the shoes of our guests, understand their expectations and to design and implement plans to exceed them.
Can you shed light on your vision for the hotel this 2020?
2020 is the year of consistently exceeding expectations. We have a lot of exciting developments in-store at the club in terms of multiple facility improvements, plans to remain an innovation-leader in our restaurants plans for new golf events later in the year. Adding to that, the continuation of utilizing Troon Golf’s tried and tested service standards to continually delight and excite our members and guests. 2020 is set to be another fantastic year at the club.
What have been the biggest challenges and successes of the past year?
The increased cost of living in Bahrain is on the tips of everybody’s tongue. This has seen all of us as consumers tighten our belts and identify where we can trade-off to ensure we live the quality of life we feel we deserve. However, at the club it is driving us to remain pro-active, increase our efforts on quality and level of service which has seen us do well in 2019 and move into 2020 with some optimism as we continue to provide more value for our members and guests.
Is there a particular saying or motto that guides you?
There are so many which ring true. However, my top choice would be “Quitters never win and winners never quit” – Vince Lombardi
