From BBQs to Kimchi: 5 Must-Try Korean Restaurants in Bahrain

Bahraincover

Korean food has quietly built a loyal following on the island. What started with a handful of Korean restaurants serving homesick expats has grown into a vibrant dining scene, fuelled in part by the global appetite for K-culture and in part by the simple fact that samgyeopsal cooked at your table is one of life’s great pleasures.

Part of the appeal is how the cuisine is built. Korean cooking centres on balance: fermented, fresh, sweet, salty, and spicy elements all sharing the same table. Yes, gochujang and kimchi bring heat, but there is always rice to ground it, banchan to contrast it, and broth to soothe it. That layered approach makes it surprisingly accessible, even for palates that would normally steer clear of anything with a kick.

Korean spots on the island are well-established, family-run, and genuinely authentic. Whether you are after a proper Korean BBQ session, a warming bowl of kimchi jjigae, or street food favourites like tteokbokki and kimbap, there is something here worth seeking.

Choosing to stay in: Most of these restaurants deliver through talabat, Keeta, Jahez, or Ahlan. So there’s no reason you can’t bring home a tasty dish.

For anyone who loves Korean food and wants to recreate it at home, Hanaro Market is one of Bahrain’s best-kept secrets. A Korean family has been running the business since 1985, importing goods from South Korea and across Asia for over 30 years. The shelves are stocked with everything from gochujang and instant ramyeon to frozen mandu and hard-to-find ingredients.

Bahrain’s Korean food scene may be small, but it punches well above its weight. With the K-food culture only growing across the Gulf, it would not be surprising to see more names in Bahrain. For more Bahrain dining guides, click here.
