Every November, Bahrain becomes the jewellery capital of the Middle East for five days. This year, that shift happens between 24 and 28 November, when Jewellery Arabia returns to Exhibition World Bahrain for its 34th edition.
If you’ve never been, here’s the short version: it’s the region’s biggest luxury jewellery and watch showcase, held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister. Last year, it pulled in over 56,000 visitors and 600 exhibitors from 29 countries, with $188 million worth of pieces changing hands. This year, organisers are expecting more than 700 brands on the floor.
Think of it less as a shop and more as a very large, very sparkly gathering of the jewellery world. Designers, gemstone dealers, watchmakers and bridal specialists all set up under one roof, and for five days, the public gets to walk through and see what they’ve brought.
There’s genuine range here. You’ll find high jewellery pieces that belong more in a private collection than on a wrist, alongside everyday gold you could actually wear to work or just around the house. Bridal is its own strong category too, with collections built for engagements, weddings and the milestones in between.
Jewellery isn’t the only draw. The watch section brings together established luxury names and newer independent makers, and it’s worth setting aside proper time for it rather than treating it as an afterthought on your way to the exit. Whether you’re after something classic or a piece with a bit more personality, there’s enough variety to actually compare rather than settle.
Here’s the practical bit that’s easy to overlook: everything sold at Jewellery Arabia is tax-exempt. That’s not a small detail when you’re talking about pieces that can run into thousands of dinars. It means your money goes further, whether you’re finally buying that investment piece you’ve been eyeing or picking up something you’ll wear day to day.
With over 700 brands in one venue, it would be easy to get overwhelmed. That’s where the pavilions come in. They work like mini-exhibitions inside the larger show, grouping related brands so you can explore a cluster of designers without wading through the entire hall to find them. It’s a small structural choice, but it makes the difference between a focused visit and a five-hour blur.
You don’t need to be in the market for a major purchase to make it worth going. Plenty of visitors come simply to see the craftsmanship up close, get a sense of where design trends are heading, or pick up ideas for a future piece. Others come specifically to buy, whether that’s a bridal set, a watch, or something rare and limited that won’t be back next year.
Workshops conducted by some of the exhibitors give you an idea of the craft, while panel discussions dive into the trends currently ruling the sector regionally and globally.
Either way, it’s one of the few times in Bahrain’s calendar when this much of the global jewellery and watch industry is in one building at the same time.
Details about the exhibitors, pavilions, and experiences will be announced soon. If you’re planning to visit the showcase, register with your details on the Jewellery Arabia website.
