HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister has directed authorities to preserve the areas of Wadi Al-Buhair and consider it a natural reserve.
Last month, over 1500 people signed a petition to protect the 45 million-year-old natural landmark in East Riffa set to be bulldozed for a new mall.

HRH the Crown Prince further called on authorities to take measures to ensure the preservation of the area. He further affirmed that the Kingdom is committed to preserving and developing natural and historical areas.
