Güven Bastürk has spent 20 years in luxury hospitality across the region. He’s now extending himself to building bespoke suits through GVVEN.
The two worlds come together more deeply than one might think. Both require understanding people, attention to detail, and knowing what works before someone asks. The difference is the medium.
GVVEN launched from what started as a personal hobby. Having spent two decades hosting guests at high-end establishments – including ORLA, a Mediterranean and Aegean restaurant he co-founded in Bahrain’s dining district – Bastürk began designing clothes for himself. Then a friend asked if he’d make him something too.
“I started designing for myself,” Bastürk says. “Eventually, I had a friend named Paul, my first client, and from there, I really started to appreciate this business.”
Learning the Craft
That first commission sent him to Italy. He spent years training with master tailors, learning techniques that can’t be rushed or replicated at scale.
The hospitality background stays with him. Where many tailors focus purely on construction, Bastürk approaches each piece thinking about the person wearing it—the same way he thinks about guests at a table.

Staying Local, Thinking Global
GVVEN has ambitions for London, New York, and Dubai. But Bastürk isn’t interested in opening dozens of stores.
“Bahrain will always be our home,” he says. “We are a homegrown brand. We love it. From here, we will definitely expand, but we will always work with one client at a time, one cut and one piece at a time.”
It’s a deliberate choice. The model is boutique, not mass market. The kind of place that’s built for a deep relationship between tailor and client.
Designing for People, Not Seasons
Bastürk cites Brunello Cucinelli as his biggest inspiration – not just for the Italian designer’s aesthetic, but for his philosophy of “humanistic capitalism,” which prioritises dignity and ethics over pure profit.
“At the end of the day, you take inspiration, but you always find your own way and the way you design for your specific clients,” Bastürk explains.

That means ignoring seasonal trends. GVVEN doesn’t chase what’s viral or what’ll be gone in six months.
“I don’t design to impress the industry,” he says. “I design to give my clients confidence and unique characters. I don’t believe in seasonal styles. We aren’t chasing a trend; I design clothes to become a part of my clients’ lives.”
The result is clothing built to last—both in construction and relevance. A GVVEN suit isn’t about what’s fashionable right now. It’s about what works for the person wearing it.
