Bahrain’s national carrier has become the latest Gulf airline to roll out Starlink satellite Wi-Fi on board, joining a regional shift that is changing what passengers can actually do at 35,000 feet.
Gulf Air launched its first commercial Starlink-equipped flight in mid-2026, according to reports. The carrier is offering free, unlimited Wi-Fi on all Starlink-fitted aircraft, with no distinction between cabin classes. Starlink connectivity is currently active on select aircraft, including the Airbus A320neo, A321neo, and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with progressive integration across the rest of the fleet underway.
The move places Bahrain’s flag carrier firmly within a broader Gulf-wide race to adopt the technology. Reports indicate that more than 37 airlines globally have committed to Starlink, with 41 either in full deployment or active testing as of mid-2026.
Traditional in-flight internet relies on ground towers or high-orbit satellites, both of which introduce significant delays and limited speeds. Starlink operates using low-Earth orbit satellites, positioned just a few hundred kilometres above the surface. The result, according to reports, is faster signal delivery, lower latency, and enough bandwidth for every passenger to stream simultaneously, far closer to a home broadband experience than anything previously available in the air.

Emirates: The Dubai-based carrier is in the midst of a major Starlink expansion. As of 14 May 2026, 33 aircraft are reported to be fitted with the technology, covering routes across the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Emirates is reported to have operated the world’s first Airbus A380 equipped with Starlink Wi-Fi, following installation and certification work carried out in Newquay, UK. The airline has confirmed plans to scale the programme to 232 Starlink-equipped aircraft. Wi-Fi is offered free of charge to all passengers across every cabin class.
Qatar Airways: Qatar Airways was the first airline in the MENA region to introduce Starlink in-flight internet, according to reports. The service is available free of charge to every passenger regardless of cabin, and is currently active across the airline’s entire fleet of Boeing 777s and Airbus A350s, as well as select Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
FlyDubai: The Dubai-based low-cost carrier is also reported to be in the midst of a fleet-wide Starlink rollout, though further operational details were not available at the time of writing.
