With Bahrain’s airspace now closed for nearly a month, the Kingdom’s national carrier has shifted its base to Saudi Arabia. Gulf Air is currently operating daily commercial flights from King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, keeping Bahrain connected to 10 international destinations across three continents.
Regular services to and from Bahrain International Airport will resume once the Civil Aviation Affairs confirms it’s safe to reopen Bahrain’s airspace. Until then, Dammam is the departure and arrival point for travel to and from Bahrain.
If you need to travel out of Bahrain, the process is straightforward. You will need to cross the King Fahd Causeway into Saudi Arabia and head to King Fahd International Airport (DMM) in Dammam.
Gulf Air is arranging bus transport directly from Bahrain to the airport in Dammam. Passengers using this service also benefit from facilitated transit visas for Saudi Arabia, so the border crossing is handled as part of the journey, and you don’t need to apply for one. However, this service would not apply if you’re planning to make the journey to the airport on your own.
If your final destination is Saudi Arabia itself, you will need to arrange your own entry visa separately.
As of late March 2026, Gulf Air’s temporary network from Dammam covers 10 key international destinations. The routes span Europe, Asia and Africa, covering the most in-demand corridors for Bahrain’s resident community.

Gulf Air’s organised bus service runs from Bahrain to King Fahd International Airport. This is the simplest option for most travellers, as the airline facilitates Saudi transit visas for passengers using the bus.
A few things to keep in mind:
There is no confirmed date yet. Gulf Air has stated that regular services from Bahrain International Airport will resume as soon as the airspace is declared safe for reopening by the Civil Aviation Affairs.
In the meantime, the Dammam operation is functioning as a reliable alternative, with daily flights and a growing route network that covers the destinations most Bahrain residents need.
