A meaningful celebration of the gardeners who help maintain the gorgeous landscapes of Bahrain’s iconic luxury resort.
You’re surrounded by a sense of calm from the moment you arrive at the gates of The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain. The landscape blends smoothly with the open water, while the lush greenery spreads far and wide. The deeper you go into the resort’s more tranquil pockets, you realise that this calm is created carefully and consistently by a team that rarely ever steps into the spotlight.
That changed on 30th April when the hotel honoured its Gardening Gentlemen – who work tirelessly to create the perfect sanctuary for guests to relax in. It was a simple celebration, but a meaningful one. For a group that often works unnoticed, it was a rare moment to be recognised and appreciated.
“Our gardening team’s efforts go far beyond maintaining the landscape—they shape the very soul of our resort. Their passion and dedication are the heart of the beauty our guests experience every day.”
Bernard de Villèle, General Manager, The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain
During a recent tour of the resort, we were invited on a buggy ride around the property. At first glance, it was an opportunity to enjoy the views—manicured lawns, tree-lined paths, and carefully tended flower beds. But as the ride continued, it became clear that every corner of the landscape was the result of steady, ongoing work by the gardening team.
It was a reminder of how often we take the natural beauty around us for granted. The trees that offer shade, the colours that brighten a morning walk, the stillness of the spaces in between—it’s all made possible by the people who care for it, day in and day out.
The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain sits on 70 acres, with 25 acres dedicated to green space. Across the resort, there are 137 types of plants, from towering date palms to flowering shrubs and seasonal blooms. The variety and layout don’t just look beautiful—they help shape the guest experience.
What’s rarely seen, though, is the team behind it all. The resort’s 45 gardeners work quietly in the background, ensuring that everything looks effortless. It’s work that requires patience, care, and attention to detail—not just once, but every single day.
The team’s work doesn’t stop at appearance. They also support the resort’s efforts to be more sustainable. Herbs like mint, rosemary, thyme, and oregano are grown on-site and used across the resort. Watering is handled by a smart irrigation system powered by an on-site reverse osmosis plant, which produces up to 2,500 cubic metres of water each day—1,000 of which go directly to the gardens.
These steps are part of a wider environmental commitment, one that has earned The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain the Green Key certification, recognising the property’s high standards in sustainability.
It’s easy to pass through a garden without thinking twice about how it came to be. But at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain, the landscape tells a story—not just of design, but of care, attention, and years of quiet work.
So next time you visit, take a moment to notice the little things: the way the plants are placed, the paths cleared just enough for a breeze to pass through, the peaceful way the space holds you. Behind it all is a team that makes sure the surroundings always feel this way—calm, welcoming, and alive.
