A Foodie’s Guide to Valentine’s Day in Bahrain by Hungry Fifi

If your other half is a foodie, then here is a handy guide to impressing them with your thoughtfulness and general good taste.

Chocolates

If your love interest enjoys a healthy lifestyle try Raw Candy’s limited edition chocolate covered strawberries, or the Bare library box of organic and fair trade bars. Looking for local flavours, then a pistachio chocolate truffle from Etneo or Tartufo is the way to go.

Traditionalists might want to send gift flowers in some form, so why not opt for chocolate roses from Bonbon. For the quirky partner in your life, try chocolate mushrooms from Leaves or Creolate, or let them pick their own Valentine’s treat with a surprise visit to the dedicated truffle rooms at Troufa. Here you can pick out your favourite flavours from their eye-watering selection.

Alt Chocolate

If you’re beau isn’t a chocolate fan (who, what, how?!) then head to Yoku Moku in Moda Mall, where a box of melt-in-your-mouth Japanese cookies await. If you’re lucky enough to be in relationship with a cheese lover (‘that’s what cheese said’), then Alosra can make up a cheese hamper for your beau or opt for more unusual fromages from Fine Foods, like the provocatively shaped Tetilla from Spain.

Dinner

Valentine’s Day is all about spending a few hours whispering sweet nothings to each other, so a languid dinner is definitely in order.  Impress your other half with a table booking at Mahonia, where their special Valentine’s tasting menu with either 5 or 7 courses will give you plenty of time to be swept away over good company and mesmerisng food.  Alternatively head to the Capital Club’s 52nd floor restaurant for some sweeping views of Manama, where a romantic embrace will be the cure for the guaranteed vertigo you will feel at Bahrain’s highest restaurant.

Adventurous couples will want to try the Alternative V-Day meal at Fusion’s in the Gulf Hotel.  Promising Bahraini chef Tala Bashmi has a surprise in store for both couples and singles, with a specially curated dinner. Watch out for teasers on her Instagram.
