Finding the voice within: Interview with singer and songwriter, Banah

Bahrain Confidential shares a conversation with singer & songwriter, Banah.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your background. Did you study music formally? Is music something you’re passionate about? How did you get into this field?

I am an artist based in Bahrain. After being a banker for 6 years then owning an advertising agency, I never found any self-fulfillment in the corporate world.  Music has always been a passion and was something I wanted to pursue further but was afraid of what the society might think. After being casted on one of the most famous Talent Music Shows in the Region, I realized that perhaps it wasn’t too late. In August 2018, I launched my first single, “Shou Helou Nihna”.

Tell us about your latest single and your collaboration with Universal Records MENA?

I signed with Universal in June 2019 and was very blessed to collaborate with one of the biggest labels in the world.  It’s an honor to be the first female GCC national to be able to do that.

After signing, I collaborated with some of the biggest names in the Arabic music industry until my 4th single, “Shou Bina” was released on September 10th.  The song was written by Pierre Hayek, composed by Yehya Al Hasan and the music arrangement by Omar Sabbagh.

What inspires you as an artist?

Everything around me is a source of inspiration.  Being a wife and a mother and having pursued music at a later stage provides me tons of inspiration as I get to evaluate life and music subjects in a more realistic and current way.

What’s next for Banah?

I will be heading out to various countries in the region for a mini media tour.  Towards the end of October – I will be preparing for the next single which I plan to launch in December 2019.  In terms of events and concerts – I am preparing for something in Bahrain before the end of the year, and I will also have my first concert in Jordan in October 2019.
