Bahraincover

Is it just us, or has 2025 absolutely flown by? One minute we were setting New Year’s resolutions, and now we’re staring down December, wondering where on earth the time went. But here’s the good news: there’s still plenty of time to tick off those family outings before we flip the calendar to a new year.

Whether you’re the spontaneous type who thrives on weekend wandering or the meticulous planner with a colour-coded family calendar, Bahrain’s got you covered. From heritage trails to waterparks, jazz festivals to traditional souqs, there’s something to suit every family dynamic.

The weather’s finally cooperating (goodbye, summer swelter), and the festive season is bringing a delightful buzz to the island. So pack those snacks, round up the kids, and make the last weeks of the year unforgettable.

Get Your Steps In: Scenic Walks Worth Taking

Sama Bay is your go-to for that perfect seaside stroll. With a full kilometre of walkway and beach access for just 2BD, it’s ideal whether you’re pushing a pram, perfecting your jogging pace, or letting the kids loose on their scooters. It’s also an amazing place for plane-spotting with your little ones.

Another year may be coming to an end, and fast but there's still plenty of time to tick off those family outings before you flip the calendar to 2026.

For a dose of history with your exercise, Bahrain Fort (Qal’at Al Bahrain) offers a stunning 2.5 km loop. Families often gather at the beach area for picnics, and the sunset views are absolutely gorgeous. Pram-friendly and with toilets and a café on site, it’s a winner for all ages. You can also take in the gorgeous sunset views from GB Cafe while enjoying some of the best globally influenced bites in Bahrain.

Dog owners, listen up: Hidd Walkway is your spot. This beautiful seafront path welcomes four-legged friends and features little parks dotted along the route with sea access corners. It’s flat, easy, and perfect for getting in a good walk either as a loop or a there-and-back route.

Perfect Picnic Spots

Sometimes the best family outings are the simplest ones: a blanket, a basket, and a beautiful park. Bahrain’s green spaces are calling.

Al Ghous Park in Muharraq offers more than just greenery. With dedicated picnic areas, a children’s playground, and a lawn perfect for games, it’s a full-day outing waiting to happen. Food and beverage outlets mean you can supplement your picnic supplies or skip the prep entirely. The paved walkway winds through manicured lawns, making it lovely for post-lunch wandering whilst the kids burn off energy.

Head to Riffa and you’ll find Khalifa Al Kubra Garden, a spacious gem that’s brilliantly equipped for families. The children’s playground keeps little ones entertained whilst you set up camp in the shaded seating areas. There’s a large field perfect for football or casual kickabouts, and the combination of shaded spots, walkways, and open grass makes it wonderfully versatile for however your family likes to spend a Saturday.

Nature lovers shouldn’t miss Dohat Arad Lagoon. It’s more than a park – it’s a proper habitat for migratory birds, so bring the binoculars along with the sandwiches. Picnic spots overlook the lagoon views, and there are food outlets if you fancy treating yourself. Good vehicular access and parking make it easy to load up the car with everything you need for a proper family feast outdoors.

Wild Adventures and Water Fun

Al Areen Wildlife Park has had a lovely renovation and remains Bahrain’s oldest animal park. At just BHD 2 per person (cards accepted), it’s brilliant value. The gardens are beautiful with flowers and water features, there’s a playground for burning off energy, and the birds roam freely for that interactive experience kids adore.

Of course, the Lost Paradise of Dilmun needs no introduction. Bahrain’s only waterpark delivers slippery slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers in spades. It’s the ultimate party atmosphere for families looking to make a splash.

For underwater adventures without getting wet, Marassi Aquarium & Underwater Zoo (also called Water Garden) is Bahrain’s largest aquarium. Watch your little ones’ faces light up as schools of colourful fish dart through coral reefs and graceful rays glide overhead. The themed exhibits make it engaging for all ages, and it’s an excellent rainy day backup plan.

Heritage and Culture

Muharraq Nights 2025 (1-30 December) transforms the UNESCO-listed Pearling Path into an enchanting cultural playground. Musical performances echo through ancient alleyways, art exhibitions pop up in restored buildings, and traditional Bahraini flavours fill the air. With children’s activities and guided tours, it’s free fun that educates whilst entertaining.

For hands-on heritage, Arad Heritage Village (open 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM daily, BHD 1 per person) lets families try handicraft work, pottery colouring, and dress up in traditional costumes for memorable photos.
