#39 Education in Bahrain
Bahrain’s education system is among the oldest in the region, dating back to 1932. Before this, Quranic Schools, or Kuttab, were the only form of education in Bahrain. Today, there are a number of private and public schools and universities in the Kingdom offering quality education in American, British, Indian, French, and various other curriculums.
St. Christopher’s School Bahrain started in a villa in 1961 and is among the oldest private institutions on the island providing British education. It has been placed among the ‘Top 100 Schools In The World’ for two years in a row, being recognised as one of the top international schools in the region.
Al Rawabi Private School was established in 1997 with 25 Kindergarten students in a small villa in Grnata, Kingdom of Bahrain. The school continues to offer affordable quality education to over 2,000 students.
The British School of Bahrain is known for offering the best holistic UK-based education in Bahrain. Established in 1995 to provide British education in Bahrain. The school was founded with a family feel that supported students through pastoral care.
American School of Bahrain is among the most advanced K-12 learning environments in Bahrain. The school offers a challenging standards-based, US curriculum designed to meet the highest standards of international education.
The Indian School is currently one of the largest co-educational schools in the country. Set up back in 1950 with a headmistress and three staff members, the school today has a student strength of over 11,000 students and 600 staff members.
Higher Education
University of Technology Bahrain (UTB), set up in 2002, is one of the largest private universities in the Kingdom. It is accredited by the Higher Education Council in Bahrain and offers bachelor programmes in engineering, computer science, and business.
The American University of Bahrain is the first comprehensive, purpose-built, American-style co-educational university in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The University offers a holistic journey for students and a unique approach to education that fosters interaction and collaboration between students, faculty and the professional community.

The Bahrain Science Center in Riffa provides a variety of distinguished science-related activities through interactive means and technological techniques. It is divided into five themed galleries: The Exploration Room, Keeping Kids Healthy, Biodiversity, Our Renewable Earth, and Skeletons.
