For nearly five decades, Cico’s Italian Restaurant has been a fixture in Bahrain’s dining scene. Since opening in 1978, the family-run establishment in Adliya has built a loyal following, with generations of guests returning time and again for authentic Italian classics and that unmistakable sense of home.

General Manager Guido Giraldo has witnessed this enduring appeal firsthand. In this exclusive conversation with Bahrain Confidential, he opens up about what makes Cico’s special, the traditions that keep the restaurant grounded, and the warm hospitality that turns first-time diners into lifelong regulars.
We’ve been open since 1978, which speaks volumes. Over the years, we’ve grown alongside our customers. Cico’s isn’t just about serving Italian food. It’s about creating memories that last a lifetime. That’s what sets us apart.
It all starts with the welcome; getting a good table, being presented with menus, and listening to recommendations from staff who know the food inside out. Fresh ingredients and well-made dishes are essential, of course. But here’s the thing: anyone can sell food. Only a few can create a genuine experience that stays with you.
Finding the right place to work is crucial when you’re building your career. Cico’s history really moved me. The fact that guests have been coming here for years, bringing their children and now their grandchildren, says everything. Plus, the staff here are exceptional. It’s simply the best place I could ask for.
I think it’s everyone’s favourite, actually: the cernia alla griglia. It’s grilled hammour with lemon and garlic sauce. Simple, fresh, absolutely delicious. You can’t go wrong with it.
I really enjoy Circa. The South American food they offer is excellent, and the service is top-notch. It’s a great spot.
