A Short Escape: What To Expect at Al Dar Islands?

Bahraincover

There are so many ways to enjoy boat rides in Bahrain:

  1. You could go on a short journey from one jetty to another for a few minutes aboard the Water Taxi.
  2. You could take a voyage into deeper waters to spend the day with dancing dolphins or pearl diving.
  3. Better yet, you could explore a different island within Bahrain’s archipelago.

If you’re going with option 3, we’ve got just the destination for you to explore – Al Dar! A short distance from the Sitra port, Al Dar Islands are a group of resort spots by the sea, and serve as a sought-after escape from the mainland. Think clear water, sandy beach, watersports, a resort, and a party vibe all day long.

If you’re planning a day-long picnic or a weekend getaway, here’s what you need to know before you go.

Getting to Al Dar Islands

The only way to get to Al Dar Islands is by boat, and there are frequent trips from the Sitra Jetty on the mainland – head to the Al Dar Islands Booking Office in Sitra, located at the boarding point.

At the booking office, you can purchase your passes for the island and reserve any add-on tours you’d like to experience. Important Tip: Carry a valid ID – it’s required at the check-in desk. Ticket prices.

Once you’ve boarded the boat, the ride to Al Dar takes just about 10 minutes. Enjoy views of the water and Bahrain’s coastline.

Tickets and Timing

There is an entrance fee to the island, which includes the boat transfer. Prices vary depending on the day and season, so it’s a good idea to check in advance or book online during peak periods.

Weekends and Public Holidays: Adult – BHD 8 | Child (6-15 years old) – BHD 5

Weekdays (Sunday – Thursday): Adult – BHD 6 | Child (6-15 years old) – BHD 3

Kids below 5 years get free tickets.

Valid ID: Passport / CPR / Driving Licence. Take originals; photocopies are not allowed.

The island and the booking office are open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The sea taxis taking you from the mainland to the island run every 30 minutes during these 12 hours.

Bahrain’s weather isn’t always unpredictable. However, on especially windy days, the water becomes choppy, and boat rides could be cancelled.

Al Dar Island can also be booked for private events on occasion. It’s always a good idea to contact the booking office in advance to make sure they’re operating.

Staying at Al Dar Islands

Chalets and Beach Huts are popular on the islands. You can book a chalet for any group size – whether it’s 4 or 30 people strong. You can also choose between using a chalet for an overnight stay or just day use (from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM).

The Beach Huts, dotted along the shore, would be ideal for adventurers. You can rent a cosy space for a few hours or overnight. A Regular Hut houses 6 – 8 people, and a King Hut accommodates 10 – 15 people.

What To Do on the Islands?

Apart from some beach fun, Al Dar also offers kayaks, paddle boards, jet skis, pedal boats, as well as volleyball and basketball experiences. It’s never a dull moment if you’re feeling a little adventurous.

Food and Drink

Al Dar Island has a restaurant, Treat, where you can order snacks, drinks, meals, grills, and more.

Boat Trips Around Al Dar

Remember option 2 from earlier? If spotting dolphins is what your heart sings to, you can book a trip at Al Dar’s Booking Office for Dolphin Watch!

You could also decide to take a slightly longer ride to Jaradha – the disappearing island – where a tiny strip of land emerges during low tide. It’s a one-of-a-kind spectacle you wouldn’t want to miss.

Plan Ahead

Al Dar Island is best enjoyed with a bit of planning, so book ahead when possible, pack wisely and arrive early to make the most of your island day.
