A Journey’s End Experience is Coming to Avli by tashas Bahrain

If you haven’t visited Avli by tashas at Bahrain Harbour yet, you are missing out on one of the most stunning dining spots in the city. It perfectly captures that chic, Athenian vibe. But there’s an even better reason to drop by next week. On Wednesday, 11 February, the restaurant is hosting a special wine dinner that promises to be the highlight of the month for food lovers and wine enthusiasts alike.

This isn’t just a standard sit-down dinner. Avli by tashas is partnering with Gulf Brands International to bring a taste of South African sunshine to Bahrain. They are flying in Nina Barkhuizen from the award-winning Journey’s End estate in Stellenbosch. This is a rare chance to meet the person behind the wine while enjoying the beautiful Mediterranean courtyard setting.

Nina Barkhuizen isn’t just there to pour drinks; she is there to share the story of the Helderberg region. Journey’s End is known for its minimal intervention approach. They don’t interfere too much with the grapes in the cellar, allowing the natural flavours from the granite soil and cool ocean breezes to shine through.

During the evening, Nina will guide guests through the details of each pour. You’ll hear about the Cape Doctor and how a family-run farm became a global leader in sustainable winemaking.

The Perfect Pairing

The Avli by tashas team has been crafting a four-course menu designed to pair perfectly with these South African wines. Annika Vorster, the Head Sommelier at Avli by tashas, has worked closely with the chefs to ensure the food not only matches the wine but enhances it as well.

You can look forward to some standout selections from the estate. The ‘Wild Child Grenache Rosé’ is on the list; it’s like summer in a glass. They are also serving the celebrated ‘Destination’ Chardonnay, a wine that has won numerous awards over the years. Pairing these with Avli by Tasha’s Greek-inspired dishes, such as fresh seafood, bright salads, and slow-cooked meats, creates a perfect combination. It connects the rugged coast of South Africa with the shores of the Mediterranean.

Wine with a Conscience

One of the best things about Journey’s End is that they focus on making great wine and doing good. They were the first winery in South Africa to earn B-Corp certification, which means they meet high standards for social and environmental impact.

From running entirely on solar power since 2014 to being a WWF Conservation Champion, they take their land seriously. Perhaps most impressively, their foundation has provided over 7 million meals to the local community in Sir Lowry’s Pass. It’s nice to know that the wine you enjoy supports a business that gives back.

The Important Bits

The dinner kicks off at 8:30 pm on Wednesday, 11 February, and because Avli likes to keep things intimate, seats are likely to go fast. At BHD 49.50 per person for four courses and all those pairings, it’s a bit of a steal for a high-end night out in the Harbour.
