Art in the Alley: Have you seen these colourful alleyways in Riffa?

The Bahrain Trust Foundation brings life to the alleys in Bahrain through this colorful project!

An old town alley just got a little bit brighter. Through painting the alleyways of Bahrain, the Bahrain Trust Foundation seeks to transform roads to an educational and social gathering for the neighborhood.

According to the foundation’s chairwoman, Dr. Fatima Al Balooshi, they seek to spread the pleasure of learning between children and young people, whether in roads or public parks. “Many neighborhoods lack public parks because of the lack of land allocated to them and the importance of providing safe spaces for children’s toys and gatherings, Bahrain Trust Foundation has developed the idea of the Learning Alley project”, she added.

Blight to Bright

The campaign, known as “Bringing Life to the Alleys in Bahrain”, completed its first alleyway refurbishment in East Riffa. This Learning Alley will be the first of many projects visualized by the Bahrain Trust Foundation. They aim to cooperate with the officials and private authorities to spread the Learning Alley in all villages and governorates in the Kingdom.

The Learning Alley is the revival of a road in a sustainable way through coloring, greening, an open library and an exciting presentation of interactive educational games and activities for children and young people and elderly people. According to the foundation, the design is based on sustainable irrigation and energy technologies. It offers a friendly environment for local birds and other species. Also, it is a tool to revitalize the surrounding community by providing an attractive and safe environment for all groups and ages.

More and more today, residents in Bahrain are recognizing the impact that art can make on public spaces. Strategically designed and placed public art can be used to celebrate community values, revitalize neighborhoods and provide safe spaces for everyone.
