Viceroy Bali Review: A Secluded Haven

At the heart of Bali, a haven for romantics, adventurers and the mindful can be found. Crowning a secluded ridge above Bali’s Valley of the Kings, Viceroy Bali offers absolute privacy, unparalleled views and convenient access to the wonders of the region while being located only five minutes away from the center of Ubud.

Upon arriving at Viceroy Bali, we were greeted warmly by the staff and presented with floral necklaces as well as delicious cocktails. It was exactly what we needed after an hour and half drive from the Seminyak airport with moderate traffic.

Viceroy Bali provides bespoke facilities including an award winning fine dining restaurant, spa centre, gymnasium and a private helipad. Recently, Viceroy Bali was awarded ‘Best luxury honeymoon hotel in Asia’ by World Luxury Hotel Awards.

The resort offers five villa categories – each showcasing sprawling space, heated pool, attentive discreet service and topnotch modern amenities. We stayed at the Terrace Villa which provides 1651sqft. of space, including a private outdoor swimming pool graced by a balé (Balinese gazebos/daybeds) perched at its edge. The accommodation was stunning we literally wanted to roll out of the bed and into the pool each morning.

The family-owned luxurious 25-villa resort is perfect for those seeking for exclusivity, elegance and exotic touch in everything. The architecture of the resort incorporated the fine cultural aesthetic of Bali while providing a contemporary and comfortable setting for its guests. We aren’t exaggerating when we say that this is one of the most beautiful resorts that we’ve been to and it would be the perfect destination for Valentine’s.

Speaking of Valentine’s, Viceroy Bali definitely sets the stage for an enchanting escape that couples will remember forever. Some of the special touches include an arrangement of roses on arrival in the villa, two-hour couples’ spa treatment, romantic candlelit degustation dinner and traditional activities such as Balinese cooking class or picnic and walk through the rice fields.

All villas are built just a stroll from the supporting facilities like CasCades Restaurant, The Lembah Spa, Viceroy Bar and resort pool, as well as the meeting and conference facilities.

The gardens, traditional balés and infinity edge main pool provide set the tone for a relaxing retreat. In addition to this, the Lembah Spa provides sublime pampering with services to enhance physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. From its perch overlooking the lush valley, the spa provides a full range of treatments that blend the best of Western techniques with Balinese traditions such as massage, body scrub/wrap, facials, hair crème bath, maincure and pedicure to name a few. Yoga lessons and a fully equipped gymnasium are on offer too.

What made our experience even better were the exceptional staff – they’re always attentive to our comfort and convenience during our stay. The service was topnotch, the food was exemplary and the villas were beautiful. Our staycation at Viceroy Bali truly was a breath of fresh air… we’ll be back soon!

Apéritif

Set amid a lush jungle valley setting, just a stone’s throw from the centre of Ubud, Apéritif is Bali’s newest and most unique fine dining destination. Combining the highest quality ingredients from Viceroy Bali’s greenhouse, the island of Bali and the world; Apéritif presents the best of contemporary global cuisine touching on the archipelago’s diverse culinary heritage and ingredients.

When we visited Viceroy Bali, we were just in time for Apéritif’s opening. With its captivating interiors, the restaurant and bar is designed to be an enchanting and unique experience. The grand atmosphere of the 1920’s was conveyed in the restaurant’s opulent decorations in marble, wood and bronze. To add character, the space is also dotted with authentic period photographs that show the last Dutch-Indonesian Viceroys

The menu explores the global cuisine through the flavors of the Indonesian archipelago. During our visit, we indulged in the sophisticated eight-course degustation menu. Since one of us was vegan, the chef crafted a special vegan menu which was really impressive given the short notice. Though small in portions, each dish was exceptionally presented. We couldn’t get enough of the Venison Wellington with foie gras, truffle mashed potatoes finished with mushroom rendang sauce. Apéritif’s freshly baked breads were also amazing!

Apéritif also has an extensive list of unique drinks as well as cocktails inspired by the Roaring Twenties. It is said that the cocktails were created with Bali’s tropical climate in mind while showcasing the best artisanal spirits and in-house infusions.

Our culinary adventure at Apéritif was nothing short of spectacular. It is also worth noting that the staff were very knowledgeable in explaining each masterpiece on top of being attentive and friendly. We can say that the restaurant is one of the best in Bali and anyone staying at the Viceroy MUST visit it. It would be a crime not to!
