A Car-Free Restaurant Street

Traffic congestion in Adliya has always been a big problem and as a part of new measures to reduce this, vehicles will soon be blocked from entering Block 338. Known as a popular dining district, Block 338 will be turned into a complete pedestrian zone with golf carts stationed in different parts to transport diners to outlets or designated car parks.

The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s restaurant and coffee shop committee is spearheading the plan and is getting support from establishments located in the district. A combined BD100,000 was voluntarily pledged by more than 50 restaurants and other outlets which will be used to purchase 40 golf carts.

Committee head Ahmed Al Saloom said that an open space behind Gulf Hotel has been allocated for a car park that can accommodate up to 200 vehicles. He also added that their target is to implement the plan in the next two months which will enable visitors to stroll around Block 338 comfortably. ν
